Mr. Bluebird

SmugMug Daily Link

Pictures and videos taken over the past two days.  Very low light and through glass.  I did a lot to 'spruce up' the shot I've posted as my daily.  I've been putting out mealworms, and the bluebirds are quite excited.  I've seen at least 5 at one time...a mix of mom, dad, and several juveniles.

How fantastic to see these bluebirds at this time of year. If we are very, very lucky, we'll get a small glimpse of them sitting on a road side post in spring.

It is supposed to go down to 9 here tonight with a windchill below zero. Our normal minimum temp is 15. I am worried for them. They are going in their box at night to huddle, and I am supplementing their food and making non frozen water available. January and February are the most vulnerable months for them when it gets this cold. This is the same group that is here in the summer. I guess they don't migrate. Don's 1st floor is like a second floor on the front side which puts me tree top height for the tree near their box. I am watching them as I type:-) Have to make sure other birds don't steal their worms. A few other songbirds are OK but not a mockingbird or other bigger bird. They are on their own! Thank for looking.
