Lasagna

I'm supposed to be on a diet, and I've got 5-10 more pounds that I'd like to lose, but I'm enjoying cooking food and sharing it with others too much right now to really focus on losing weight.  Last night, I was in the mood to make lasagna, so I picked up the ingredients and set about putting it together.  I've never really been satisfied by hamburger in my lasagna, so I browned a pound of Jimmy Dean Sage sausage in a skillet with chopped sweet onion.  Sometimes I drain the drippings, but there didn't seem to be much last night, so I added two cans of Hunts Tomato Sauce and two can of Hunts Petite Diced Tomatoes.  I like my lasagna to have a generous amount of sauce, so I tend to make a large pot.  I added thyme, basil, oregano, garlic salt, and minced garlic to taste plus a tablespoon of sugar and a bit of white wine.  I find I don't have to let the sauce simmer too long.  15 minutes should be more than adequate.  I also don't like to use uncooked noodles, so I cooked mine for the minimum time while the sauce was heating up.  With a pound of finely shredded mozzarella cheese, 15 oz. of Ricotta cheese whipped with two eggs and some chives, and a bag of baby spinach leaves, I set out to build the layers:  sauce, noodles, sauce, ricotta, mozzarella, baby spinach leaves, noodles, sauce, etc.  45 minutes at 350 seems to work fine.  Yum!  Serve with a salad and/or garlic bread depending on how good or bad you are trying to be with your food;-)

Lunch was a colorful treat too:

Hamburger roll, lefter strip steak sliced thing, cheddar cheese, and sweet onion and red pepper sauteed to perfection.  Double yum!

What am I?

Any idea what this is?

If you're not sure, it's the chrome/grill from this 1959 Corvette:

I went to the Capital City Car Show in downtown Raleigh yesterday. They cars lined up in the Convention Center (which I didn't look at) and outside on the Fayetteville Street Mall (which I walked completely). Great turn out. Reasonable temps. Awesome cars. FUN! To get a feel for the size of the outside part of the show, look here:

The cars went all the way to the Capital building.  This is the same route the kids and I walked during the St. Patrick's Day parade.

I saw a few Cadillacs and thought of Carole and Larry and the Caddy's I used to drive. This is a 1964:

As I was shooting, I was definitely thinking about how Lgood takes her car show shots and tried to apply some of what I like about her style to my shots.

I went with my friend, Don, and he knew a lot about the cars, so it was really fun hearing about what I was seeing. I used to drive a 1966 and then 1976 Cadillac in my high school/college years, so the car show brought back my own memories too. My 1976 Caddy was affectionately called The Klingon Battle Cruiser since it had a 126" wheel base:-)

Don took a few shots with his iPod Touch and finessed one of them using Picnik in Picasa.

My favorite reflection shot of us during the day:

I have a gallery of the event featured on my homepage and here.

I may share another car show shot tomorrow. I had a few that I liked.

A Meal Fit for a King

SmugMug Daily  Link

I had the pleasure of eating a meal with friends at Madi's house (the Kidd Family) last night. Let me tell you it was good! Steaks, okra, onions, and potatoes from the grill. A wonderful fresh salad. Fresh butter beans from Porters cooked with country ham. And, let's not forget carrot cake with mayonnaise, crushed pineapple, pecans, and fresh grated carrots. Oh, and the frosting has real cream cheese in it. Let's just say I'm not in any rush to eat any breakfast or maybe even any lunch today;-)

Me happy:

A man about ready to enjoy a steak!

A Bud and His Friend

Taken on the edge of a tobacco field this morning:

Just me running late again today but I swear as of tomorrow I'm back on track;-)

Madi is such a good homework helper and reading buddy:

It's a book adapted from the Cars 2 movie.

The 'face' spiders are all over my yard. They have the coolest webs!

Last but not least the dragonfly that almost made my daily shot:

Morning Glory!

Daily Link on SmugMug

Another late daily taken on the way home from dropping the kids off at school. This fence is pretty close to the road with a ditch and poison ivy:-( But, I got a few shots I liked, and this one was my favorite of the batch. Behind the fence is a beautiful grassy field.

A few more you might enjoy...

We're enjoying slightly cooler temps:-)

Sunshine Day

Adapted from:

Taken on the way home from dropping the kids off at school this morning. For some reason I have energy and the urge to clean and reorganize! Go figure!

Johnny had a major Lego achievement last night.  He completed the Tokyo International Circuit kit with 842 pieces.  For his accomplishment, I gave him the Flo's V8 Cafe kit with 517 pieces.  Way to go Johnny!

These two tiny butterflies tried to be my POTD today but just didn't make the cut.  Smaller than a quarter.  They were fluttering near the sidewalk as I left work (office bldg.) yesterday.

Also on the way to the parking lot yesterday.  I was thinking time tunnels again...

Spooky

Today's POTD didn't start out to be a spooky spider...really. I saw this cool web in my yard yesterday morning that was kindof in the sunlight. I grabbed my camera fast! I've seen this type of spider before. Harmless! A bit spooky I think! I did my best to get a sharp, bokeh pretty shot, but there just wasn't enough light for handheld. I ended up doing a B&W (tint) conversion and adding a bit of grain and going spooky to try to offset the movement in the shot. It's only 68 this morning, and the first signs of fall are just around the corner...

This may just be a Blue Jay fledgling trying to get some 'hair'!

I also continue to monitor the cardinal fledglings.
